Benefits of fasting

Oruc tutmağın faydaları

In fact, perhaps I am mistaken in making such a headline, because fasting should be done only for the sake of Allah, and I believe that fasting as a command of Allah will not cause any harm. You fast just because Allah has commanded to do so.

Means

Fasting means the purification of our body and soul. If 30-50 years ago, fasting was viewed with disgust all over the world, now there are starvation treatments and hunger centers all over the world.

One of the most important human organs is the liver. A person cannot live more than 3 days without a liver, and one of the most reliable and effective ways to restore the liver is fasting. The liver is a storehouse of energy. During fasting, i.e. 6-7 hours after starvation, the body begins to use the reserve energy in the liver. In this case, there may be mild nausea and weakness, which is natural. The liver is renewed, relaxed and refreshed. During starvation, cholesterol and triglyceride levels (fats that occupy the inner walls of blood vessels) return to normal.

Fasting is useful for those suffering from pancreatitis. Because our stomach is empty, after 6-7 hours of fasting, the enzymatic activity decreases and there is almost no enzyme secretion, during which the pancreas recovers itself. The fact is that during pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), the pancreas’s own juice is digested.

Fasting is invaluable in the treatment of heart disease such as heart attack and atherosclerosis. During fasting, the volume of blood in the arteries decreases, the heart relaxes, and then the pressure in the tissues decreases as a result of the decrease in intercellular fluid, and finally our tissues are cleansed. By the time of iftar,[2] all the energy sources in our body are depleted, and eventually the fat deposits in the arteries begin to break down. At this time, the excess substances accumulated inside the arteries, especially cholesterol, are cleared and the arteries become elastic.

People who fast regularly do not suffer from multiple sclerosis. During fasting, our joints are cleansed of salts. The kidneys are cleansed. During eating 3 times a day, stones and slag accumulate between the piles of our intestines, normally their amount reaches 4-5 kg. When we fast, these are also cleansed from our body.

Fasting also reduces the enzymatic activity of the stomach, its inner wall is easily refreshed. It also reduces the volume of our stomach, which prevents overeating. Blood sugar drops during fasting.

Some diabetics do not fast because they inject insulin, which is a mistake. After 10-12 hours of starvation, blood sugar levels begin to fall. Only diabetics can suffer for 2-3 days, and then there will be no problems. Summer fasting is the best time for those who want to lose weight.

During fasting

During fasting, enzymes such as adrenaline and cortisone in the blood are reduced, eliminating the possibility of our cells getting cancer. During this period, the human brain is better supplied with blood, which leads to an increase in memory and attention. Fasting is an opportunity for those whose  hands and feet sweat, because it normalizes the interaction of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

It is useful for those who suffer from high blood pressure because our body does not absorb water during fasting, as well as the fluids accumulated in the body are excreted by the kidneys and sweat. Also, cleansing the intestines restores their filtering activity, which slows down the passage of large fat particles and antibodies into the bloodstream and regulates the immune system.

Fasting is also the training of the ego. Despite the shackles of the devils in Ramadan, bad relations continue among some people. Such people are always under the influence of predatory desires. The heart and soul of a fasting person, on the other hand, are always pure and high, as if both the worldly life and the Hereafter are insured. After 15-20 days of fasting, a person’s taste receptors become very aroused and the sense of taste increases.

During fasting, a person does not do meaningless and unnecessary actions, avoids gossip and pettiness, and gets closer to the perfection.

Fasting is a shield against the troubles of the servant, and improves soul and body for this world and the Hereafter. Allah says: “O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you.”

Let’s eat to live, let’s not be captives of our stomachs, let’s go hungry so that we sympathize with those who are hungry!
