How to apply leeches

In this post of mine about this magical creature, I would like to inform you about the rules of applying leeches.

The skin surface should be washed with ordinary clean water before applying leeches. The leech does not hold to the body when applied to fragrant, cold or sweaty and cigarette-smelling skin.

Leeches should not be used in patients with blood stasis, anemia, pregnancy, internal bleeding and cerebral hemorrhage!

Normally, 10, 8, 6, 4 leeches can be applied in every 7 days or 3-5 leeches every 3-4 days. It is determined by a person’s blood composition, blood pressure and general condition. Depending on the disease, 10, 20, 30, 50, 80 and more leeches can be used. Some cases are exceptions. For example, I prescribed 150 leeches to a patient with purulent inflammation in his leg, and only then did recovery begin.

For instnace, a patient with a migraine may apply 6 leeches on the liver, 2 on the back of the right ear, 2 on the back of the left ear, the next 10 days on the neck, then on the back, then on the waist, then on the coccyx, and finally the last 10 leeches on the scalp, temple and neck.

Some people put leeches just on the sore spot, which is not right. Because after placing the leech on the painful area in the first session, it is necessary to put it on the liver, neck, back, waist, coccyx, knees, ankles, and finally put it on the painful part again and finish the treatment. Or, if you have osteochondrosis of the neck and you put 8 leeches a week, then apply 3-4 leeches a week on the neck, and the rest in turn on the back, waist and coccyx. Why should leeches be placed in other parts of the body, too? This is because hirudin and the 105 enzymes of hirudin in the saliva of leeches spread through our blood vessels throughout the body, thereby restoring the damaged blood circulation and ensuring better nutrition of the tissues.

In general, leech treatment should be carried out twice a year in spring and autumn. This type of treatment is preventive treatment. Depending on the disease, the number of leeches and the duration of treatment may vary. It is very good for your health to get hijama-cupped before having leeches applied.

Blood-thinning drugs should not be used for 3 days before applying leech. When 10 leeches are applied every 10 days, in total it makes up 60 leeches and the treatment takes 2 months. Blood-thinning remedies should be discontinued 3 days before the procedure, and they should not be used during or after treatment. If you do not want to use blood-thinning remedies at all, you can use 5 leeches every 15 days. In doing so, it is necessary to analyze the blood for coagulation and determine how many leeches will be applied every 15 days.

Remember that leeches should be used not only by patients, but also by healthy people to live a healthy life.

Finally, I would like to note that the leech becomes full and drops off about 20-40 minutes after application.

Once the leech is full, it is best to leave it around a river or a stream. It is impossible to use the same leech for the second time. In fact, you cannot get what you want from it since the leech becomes hungry again 6 months after it becomes full.

Then a piece of cloth or cotton is placed over the bite of the leech to attract the flowing blood. Sometimes a small amount of blood can come from that part for 4-8 hours; there is no need to be afraid of it. The site of the leeches is itchy for 2-4 days. It is necessary to try not to scratch that part as much as possible because it can cause inflammation of the wound, swelling of the surrounding lymph nodes, which is not scary; it all takes only 2-3 days.
