Most people are unaware of the wider use of henna. Two-meter tall henna bushes are grown in countries like India, Arabia and Iran. Henna powder used for dying hair is dried and grated leaves of lawsonia plant.

         The rich chemical composition of henna makes it a very useful plant.

         The Prophet (Peace and Bless be upon him) liked the smell of henna and said that the angels liked it, too. He (Peace and Bless be upon him) used it himself and recommended his companions to use it even more. Because of constricting and antiseptic substances contained in henna, it is widely used in all skin diseases and wounds. When henna is applied on wounds with secondary infection, pus on in the wound quickly vanishes. It can also be applied on burns, fungus etc.

         The henna applied on wounds cover them with a thin layer which prevents them from the infection and enables the formation of a new skin layer. For this purpose, paste made from the mixture of henna and honey is also used.

         To prevent foot smell and foot fungus, the henna needs be applied once a day for 15 days. To treat heel chaps and hemorrhoid, mix henna and butter together and put it on the wound. This treatment needs carrying out for 15 days, once a day for half an hour each time. Use henna in the case of itching between the fingers or on the body. It would be better to use colorless henna if there is a rash on face, and regular henna if it is on the body.

         In case of wounds in the mouth and throat, pour a glass of hot water on a tablespoon of henna, cool it and gargle your mouth and throat. Henna greatly affects hair roots, enables hair to grow healthily, stops ringworm, deepens hair roots, removes dandruff and it is an effective treatment against seborrhea. It is used in the treatment of vitiligo and psoriasis. Because of its painkilling effect, the pain disappears when henna is placed in a painful area. Henna improves cerebral blood circulation and it is used in the treatment of migraine. Henna applied on goitre knots causes them to shrink.

         Henna is used to prevent frequent nail fractures. It is effective in the treatment of eczema. In order to prevent estruation that comes from the uterus, a tablespoon of henna is brewed in a glass of water and the uterus is washed twice a day.         Sometimes men and children do not want to use henna because of its color.
