First of all, let me tell you that cough is to protect the body since it clears phlegm and inflammation from the body. Cough in children is different from that in adults. Because newborns cannot excrete sputum when they cough until they are about 6-7 months of age. For this reason, children should not be given expectorants or should be given in very small doses to prevent suffocation. It is better for such children to use more antimicrobial herbs and immune-boosting remedies.
When children are down with pneumonia, try to massage the child’s chest and back with half a mixture of olive and camphor oil. Using camphor oil only will burn the child’s skin.
You can also use goat fat for massage. Soften goat fat (about the size of a walnut) by hand, and after it is like plasticine, massage the child’s chest and back. Goat fat is both sudorific and antipyretic.
Infusion of licorice root is very effective for children up to 6 months. Boil half a teaspoon of licorice root in a glass of water for 5 minutes, then mix this one-glass infusion with all the tea and water that the child drinks throughout the day. Try to have him/her drink a glass per day. Licorice root contains hormone-like substances (saponins) that improve both the child’s appetite and immunity. Licorice root is also sweet. You can give licorice root infusion for 10 days. If the cough does not go away within 2 weeks, heat 30 grams of unrefined olive oil, mix 10 grams of finely chopped propolis and melt it, cool the oil, discard the resin and then mix with 100 grams of honey. You can give this mixture to children over 1 year old 3 times a day before meals. As for children over 5 years old, you can give half a teaspoon 3 times a day. You can do it for 2 weeks.
Bronchonate
‘Bronchonate’ syrup, which can be easily drunk by children and is made of all-natural plants, is also very useful. Remember that I made ‘Bronchonate’ syrup mainly to prevent children’s coughs, and I have always given it to my children. If children have persistent whooping coughs, mix a teaspoon of honey with a glass of warmed milk. This will prolong the intervals of coughing. Let me remind you a composition that is useful for both children and adults. Peel a squash, grate it and cut it in half. Mix it with half a cup of honey and keep it in a sealed jar at room temperature for 12-14 hours. When you open the jar after 14 hours, the contents will be like liquid. Give children a teaspoon of this liquid 3 times a day and adults a tablespoon 3 times a day. It is useful for both coughs and whooping cough. You can continue the treatment for one week.
