The perfect prescription from the Islamic doctor Ag Shamsaddin

Ağ şəmsəddin

Ag Shamsaddin was born in 1389 in Damascus. Ag Shamsaddin, who memorized the whole Qur’an at the age of 7, began studying in Ottoman madrassas. This man of high morals and intelligence was advised to go to Haji Bayram, one of the famous scholars of that time. Shamsaddin, who came to meet Haji in Ankara, asked where he was and received the answer that the man he mentioned was collecting money from shops. Shamsaddin left there in remorse and went to Aleppo, saying, “The one who collects money from shops cannot be a proper teacher.”

Arriving in Aleppo tired, Shamsaddin woke up from a terrible dream and returned to Ankara to visit Haji Bayram. He saw in a dream that he wanted to go to Aleppo, but Haji Bayram put a chain around his neck and pulled him towards Ankara, suffocating him so that he woke up. Arriving in Ankara, Shamsaddin saw Haji Bayram eating with his students, but Haji Bayram did not even look at Shamsaddin’s face. Shamsaddin, on the other hand, was ashamed and went to eat with the dog, not with the students, and said to himself, “You deserve this.” Seeing this humility in Shamsaddin, Haji invited him and said: “This is how they greet a guest who comes with force.” Shamsaddin saw that Haji was a friend of Allah and treated him with respect. Haji also had that dream. Thus, here Shamsaddin mastered the secrets of science, studied plants and diseases in depth and became famous as a well-educated healer.

Ag Shamsaddin, who discovered the ways in which infectious diseases spread 400 years before Louis Pasteur, wrote in Maddat al-Hayat: “It is wrong to look for the recurrence of diseases in humans. Diseases are caused by invisible creatures.”

Later, Shamsaddin became the closest adviser to Fatih Sultan Mehmet, and gave valuable advice during the conquest of Istanbul. Amazed by Shamsaddin, the Sultan wanted to be his student, but Shamsaddin left the palace with the permission of the Sultan and continued to educate students. He was called Ag Shamsaddin because he always wore white.[8]
